Early September 2017, when the New Yorkers and the New York Times report the sexual harassment and assault by Harvey Weinstein, dozens of female actress had accused this former “unshakable” Hollywood producer for all type of sexual harassment, ranging from text messages and attempt of raping. The acquisition eventually ended on November 23, an unnamed former employee of Weinstein, was the last and the 84th victims who had acquiesced Weinstein for any form of sexual misconduct. Even Though Weinstein’s spokesman responded to the issue in which “Any allegations of non- consensual sex are unequivocally denied by Mr. Weinstein,” his image and reputation will no longer returns to his glorious time. Following up in the month, an estimation of 39 hollywood biggest names have been accused for sexual assault. Presented as one of the biggest shocking news towards the end of 2017.
The impact of the hollywood’s sexual assault extended beyond the new year, as Seth Meyer accomplishes the task of: Delivering the message of sexual assault through humor and entertainment at the 75th Golden Globes opening ceremony. Not only was the event a huge disgrace of entertainment industry, it created a “stereotype” for all male actors and employees who currently or previously worked for the industry. Like what Seth Meyer had teased in his opening monologue, “For the male nominees in the room tonight, this is the first time in three months it won’t be terrifying to hear your name read out loud.” The recent hollywood sexual misconduct completely changed people’s view on the entertainment industry. In response, Meyer’s joke not only demonstrates the entertainment industry’s admittment of the ugly flood of sexual harassment, it also exemplifies the mourning for all victims in the tragedy as the majority of the guest attended the ceremony with full black custom.
“Harvey Weinstein isn’t here tonight because, well, I’ve heard rumors he’s crazy and difficult to work with,” Meyers quipped. “But don’t worry, he’ll be back in 20 years when he becomes the first person ever booed during the In Memoriam.” Meyers joked, responding to the starter and the biggest “criminal” of the chain of Hollywood’s sexual assault. Thus bringing up the topic of women’s right which was further carried out by Oprah’s powerful speech.
