Although 2020 presents itself with a global lockdown and maintain in-home activities, various events and conflicts, such as BLM movements, have been known to directly contribute towards the reconsideration of our current president. Controversial discussions such as defunding the police and unnecessary police brutality puts the president’s decision on the spotlight. Making the wrong move will hurt his standing amongst the people.
With Trump’s decisions, there has been even greater debate on who will lead America next: Biden or Trump. In the scenario in which the pandemic is getting worse and the government is in the hands of determining whether people should go outside or not, it is essential to realize the importance of mail in ballots, determining who will be the next president of the United States.
There are multiple opinions towards the upcoming election, in which some propose the current president Trump already has met his time. Kyle Min, a junior from Los Alamitos High School, stated, “When it comes to presidency, Biden is the most promising. Trump has done little-to-nothing to improve this nation and has done many things our Founding Fathers frown upon. Biden seeks to benefit both teachers and students of college. And since college is so much more difficult to enter now, this will lighten the load.” This is a statement many US citizens have supported as the tides have turned with Biden gaining 53 percent lean compared to Trump’s 47 percent.
Others believe in an arbitrary middle ground, in which neither Biden nor Trump are fit to become the next president because of their track record. Woohyun Song, a junior from Valencia High School, stated, “Between the two choices, I would most likely lean towards voting towards Biden, but I personally believe that neither of the choices would be good for the United States. Since both have a track record of ignoring the rights of minorities such as the BIPOC, LGBTQ+ communities, among many others, and also their outward apathy for the environment, I think that either choice would be bad for the United States in the long run. I personally advocate for a third party candidate that best aligns with my views (Howie Hawkins of the Green Party USA specifically), especially with the DNC’s generally terrible track record of appealing to more left leaning voters in the United States.”
Considering all presidential candidates, even ones that do not include Donald Trump and Joe Biden, it is clear to say who is winning and who is the preferred president amongst the competitors. Many have voted Biden for a new change, and the US has shown their compassion towards opposing Trump’s actions, indicating the sign for a shift towards a different presidential era as well as how, if elected, Biden will handle the United States of America and its people.
