The Golden State Warriors were in a major crisis. They lost three straight games and their star players like Curry, Durant, and Klay Thompson were playing poorly. The bench was not playing as well as they usually did either, and it seemed like we were witnessing the downfall of a dynasty. Meanwhile, other teams like Lakers, Rockets, Spurs, and Raptor improved immensely and looked like they were about to take the crown from the Warriors. To make matter worse, Draymond Green, the team’s best defensive player, was suspended for fighting with another teammate.
Then, everything changed…
As quickly as the problems stated, they ended; the defending Champions were back! First, Klay Thompson was struggling to hit three pointers like he used to, but then he gained his confidence and started hitting threes without hesitation. There is even a famous image of him thanking his shooting arm and saying, “I missed you.” The team chemistry also looks really great. They have fun these days rather than having to always argue over their performances during the game. This was proven when they set a new record for the most points scored during the whole game against the Grizzlies at Oracle Arena. The Golden State Warriors field goal percentage increased drastically compared to when they were in a crisis too. All of this showed the world that they team was back and are ready to play ball.
The point that we all need to realize, whether we want to or not, is that this is one of the best basketball teams the world has ever seen. Even at the Warriors worst point this year, with the media piling on and broadcasting negative articles and segments, they were never worse than third place in the rankings, and are firmly planted as the best team in the Western conference today. With impending contract situations coming up next year, this team may not last so I urge fans and haters alike to appreciate the game that the Warriors play.
Dynasties come around maybe once for every generation, if we are lucky. The Warriors have made their mark amongst the ranks of those teams like the Chicago Bulls, Los Angeles Lakers, Boston Celtics, and the Miami Heat. In future decades our children will without question be talking about this team, and we have the privilege to say, “I remember watching when...”
