HOUSTON (AP)
A businessman who had apparently been feuding with a Houston wholesaler killed the man and two members of his family at their business Jan.9, then fatally shot himself. The suspect? estranged wife was later found slain inside a cooler at the convenience store they owned.
Witnesses told police that the gunman walked into Amko Trading, a clothing and perfume business, at about noon and said, "They murdered my family, and now I? going to murder them."
A SWAT team found the bodies of the wholesaler, his wife and their daughter, along with the mortally wounded gunman and two pistols, both of which appeared to have been fired.
The suspect died later at a hospital of a gunshot wound to the head.
Police Capt. Richard Holland said the body of the suspect? wife was discovered about four hours after the shootings. Police identified the gunman as Ki-yung Park, 54, and his estranged wife as Byong-sun Park, 42.
Police said the Amko victims were Chung Chang, 58, and his wife Hyon, 54, and their 23-year-old daughter Kathy.
Employee Ruben Zuniga, 29, and others said the victims owned the business, something police did not immediately confirm.
"When I heard the shots I got out and ran," said Zuniga, who added that there were about eight customers inside.
Police spokeswoman Silvia Trevino said the suspect had been in a "lingering feud" with the business, but had no other details.
Chang and the suspect both were Korean and had known each other for years, said Christopher Ahn, who identified himself as Chang? attorney.
Ahn also said the suspect had been behaving strangely, baselessly accusing Chang of sleeping with his wife.
Acquaintances said Chang was active in the business community. Amko Trading is in an area of Houston filled with office parks commonly occupied by discount and wholesale stores. The convenience store is about eight miles away.
Mayor Lee Brown was at the trading store Jan.9 evening, offering his condolences to family and friends.
"It? always difficult to understand the motives behind senseless violence," said Brown, a former police chief in Houston and elsewhere.
