Nowadays, the hoverboard is one of the most popular and hottest toys wanted by various groups of people, including young children, celebrities, teenagers, and adults. It is even featured in numerous numbers of videos on social media, which has made it go viral worldwide. However, this hot new toy is responsible for countless falls and injuries, causing the state to take action and set necessary rules for one’s safety.

The new California law first requires a certain age limit for people to ride the hoverboard in public. Hoverboard riders have to be at least sixteen years old and must always wear a helmet when riding. Another rule is that people can only ride on streets where the speed limit is under 35 mph. As a consequence, anyone who violates these rules or rides under the influence will have to pay a fine of ＄250.

As these rules were made, arguments arose because many people believed that some of the restrictions were too harsh. Most people agree that safety comes first; however they insisted that the age limit required was unnecessary. They suggested that young children should be able to ride the hoverboard, as long as they were taught how to properly ride it and they followed the other rules accordingly. As it is seen on social media, many young children are just as capable as adults when they are taught how to ride the hoverboard beforehand.

I agree that the age restriction is more unfair rather than beneficial to one’s safety. It is more important that everyone learns how to ride and operate the hoverboard the proper way. Many kids are capable of learning how to function a hoverboard just like adults. However, the other new rules are necessary to ensure the safety of all riders. As seen on online videos, the hoverboard caused many injuries and falls not only to young kids, but also to adults. These new rules are made to prevent further injuries and to allow people to have fun in a safe manner. Although some of these rules may sound unfair and bothersome, they are mandatory to ensure riders’ safety.
