America prides itself inits role on the global stage the world’s peacekeeper and ultimate superpower.
With a powerful military and the highest GDP in the world, the United States is a country to look up to as a global administrator of justice. The people have made it their duty to look after other less fortunate countries, claiming that they must be the France to other colonial Americas. Well, they used to,at least. That pride and sense of responsibility have dwindled in the last few decades among the people, although the country continues asserting itself across the globe in places like the Middle East. Thus, the citizens have questioned the necessity of the nation’s participation in such places and whether the nation’s resources could be better spent on improving itself.
In all starkness, the States have made several unnecessary, unlucky, and odd moves around the world. After the Spanish-American War, it held onto the Philippines as a colony for a few decades-despite promising it independence after the war resulting in a rebellion. The Vietnam Conflict and Korean Conflict are well remembered as American failures. More recently,to get more oil for less money, it moved into Iraq, shadily citing the (nearly nonexistent) fight against terrorism there, before changing its initiative to making Iraq a democracy. Moreover, the result of its work there was a real terrorist threat.
Over the years, America’s global leadership has only lost credibility.
Such failures abroad should help convince American policymakers to turn their attention to where they are truly needed-home.
The domestic front is riddled with issues of all kinds that need to be addressed. Improving life domestically won’t necessarily be easy, but the people deserve it. The people vote for who they believe will make their lives better, so it is up to those elected politicians to do exactly that -and by doing so, they will regain the people’s trust. This mutually beneficial relationship is only possible if more focus is put on home instead of the rest of the world.
