▶ Freeman Ties Record with Home Runs in 3 Consecutive WS Games
▶ Buehler Shuts Out Yankees in 5 Innings
The Los Angeles Dodgers took down the New York Yankees again in Game 3 of the World Series, positioning themselves just one win away from their first title in four years. The Dodgers triumphed 4-2 at Yankee Stadium on October 28, making it their third consecutive victory in the seven-game series, with no losses so far.
Historically, in Major League Baseball’s seven-game postseason series, only one team has ever managed a reverse sweep after losing the first three games. That happened in the 2004 American League Championship Series when the Boston Red Sox rallied back to defeat the Yankees.
In the World Series specifically, every team that has won Games 1-3 has eventually claimed the title.
Shohei Ohtani, recovering from shoulder discomfort, started Game 3 as the designated hitter and walked in the first inning. Moments later, Freddie Freeman hammered a two-run home run, his third consecutive game hitting a homer in the series. This rare feat has only been achieved by two others in World Series history, Hank Bauer (1958) and Barry Bonds (2002).
Additionally, Freeman has now hit home runs in five consecutive World Series games dating back to 2021, tying George Springer’s record (2017-2019) for the most consecutive World Series games with a home run.
Dodgers' Mookie Betts added another run with an RBI single in the third inning, and a safety squeeze attempt in the fourth by Tommy Edman almost brought home another run. The Yankees, however, managed to prevent the run with a swift tag-out on Gavin Lux.
Walker Buehler held the Yankees scoreless for five innings, allowing only two hits and two walks, clinching his second career World Series win as a starting pitcher.
Despite a late-game two-run homer by Alex Verdugo, the Yankees could not overcome the deficit. Aaron Judge, who led the league in home runs during the regular season with 58, has struggled throughout the series, going 1 for 12 across three games.
As the Dodgers head into Game 4 on October 29, they hold the series advantage against the Yankees, marking a historic rivalry not seen in the World Series since 1981.
