The immigration debate has been span­ning multiple decades and is still met with a mix of conflict. There is no question that there have been many con­troversial views as to what to do with all the undocumented and il­legal immigrants in the United States. Currently there are 11 million un­documented immigrants residing in the U.S., but not all can be de­ported due to the sheer number and magni­tude. However, 54% of the immigrants have been living in the U.S. for over 10 years, a third have children born in the U.S., a third have health care, and most are working. Many Republicans support the deportation of all these immigrants, and the U.S. govern­ment is actually involved in the legal process of this.

However, President Obama proposes a new policy: to allow around 4.4 million un­documented immigrants to stay in the U.S. Only those who came to the states in 2007 and before are allowed to apply. Although President Obama has good intentions, there are many issues with his new policy, and many despise the plan. Currently, 17 states in the U.S.are going against Obama because they claim that he is surpassing his presiden­tial boundaries. They are attempting to sue his immigration policy and are refuting his executive order because is is attempting to overwrite and rewrite laws that have already been passed and approved by Congress. Not only that, it causes a huge economic burden to many of the states. The Texas governor said that this new policy is inviting even more illegal immigrants into the U.S. They justify that more illegal immigrants will arrive because in 2012, Obama gave protection to many illegal immigrants with children born in the U.S. It is worth noting that a surge of illegal immigrants came in that year. Texas claims that if this new policy is passed, then there will be an even higher influx of illegal immigrants, which will cause them to spend an additional ＄1.3 million on border troops. Are the additional costs justi­fied by our mantra of freedom? Only time will tell.
